On the Neches River, about 15 miles southwest of Tyler on Texas 155.

Surface Acres

Big enough for upper-lake timber, mid-lake bridges, creek arms, lower-lake open water and river access.

Maximum Depth

Deep enough for winter and summer shifts, but many top patterns are bridge, brush, vegetation and creek-arm focused.

Conservation Pool

Conservation pool elevation is listed at 345 ft. msl with typical fluctuation around 2.2 feet.

Water Clarity

TPWD describes normal clarity as moderately clear. Wind, inflow and storms can still stain the upper lake and creeks.

Vegetation

Hydrilla and native submerged, emergent and floating plants are moderate in the upper end and creek arms, especially Kickapoo Creek.

• Threadfin shad were abundant and formed the bulk of the forage base.
• About 87% of gizzard shad sampled were available as prey for most sport fish.
• Bluegill were moderate and mostly under 5 inches, serving as supplemental prey.
• Translation for anglers: follow bait, not just shoreline.

Invasive-Species Reality

• Common and giant salvinia have been documented in the reservoir.
• Salvinia can block access and reduce useful native habitat.

Fall

Follow shad into creeks, pockets and wind-blown banks. Reaction baits improve for bass; crappie begin grouping tighter on structure.

Winter

White bass and hybrid stripers can be active from the dam to Highway 155. Crappie stack deeper around brush and pilings.

• Highway 155 main crossing and crossings over Highsaw/Ledbetter creeks.

How to Use the Structure

• Graph brush before fishing it; do not waste time on empty cover.
• Fish above crappie, not below them.
• Run shad patterns when you see bait pushed by wind.
• Use vertical presentations for bridge fish.
• Idle through unfamiliar timber and stump fields.
• Pick ramp by target area so you do not waste fuel crossing the lake.

Plan around Texas 155 bridge-area access, Lakeside Getaway pier, nearby marinas, or free access depending on your target side.

Upper-Lake Bass

Use Kickapoo, Flat Creek, Saline Bay, Cherokee Landing, Chimney Creek or other creek-arm access based on cover and wind.

White Bass Run

Use Chandler River Park for Neches River access when flows and timing line up.

Lower Lake / Dam

Use Deep End Public Ramp for lower-lake work near the dam side and open-water hybrid/white bass plans.

No Boat

Start with Chandler River Park, Kickapoo Public Ramp, Flat Creek Public Ramp, Lakeside Getaway’s pier and Deep End dock/area access.

Busy Weekend

Villages Marina has the largest listed parking capacity; public ramps can fill quickly on tournament or holiday weekends.

Best Bank Starts

Chandler River Park, Kickapoo Public Ramp, Flat Creek Public Ramp, Lakeside Getaway pier and Deep End area are better than random shoreline searching.

Kayak / Paddle

Chandler River Park is a useful Neches River put-in, but access is daylight only, first-come, and flow/weather must be checked.

Family Plan

Pick access with parking, pier, restrooms, marina service or short walking distance. Avoid timber-heavy unknown banks with kids.

• Current seams, creek mouths and shallow moving water.

What to Throw

• Small white or chartreuse jigs.
• Small crankbaits.
• Road-runner style baits.
• Spoons and tail-spinners.
• Streamers for fly anglers.
• Lights or lighted docks can work at night where legal and accessible.

Crappie Tips

• Fish bridge shade and pilings first on bright days.
• Use minnows when fish are present but not committing to jigs.

• Keep fish above brush; dropping too deep increases snags.
